Serenity (Melba in California)

62 x 52 cm UF); 79 x 69 cm (F)

This subject of Melba was painted as part of a 50 year commemorative exhibition organised by Mr Andrew McKenzie through The Pastel Society of Victoria, Australia in honour of Dame Nelly Melba.  It was a challenge painting it from a small black & white image that was only 6cm square, although Andrew was able to tell me the colour of her eyes and skin so that a more accurate painting could be executed.  This painting now lives in South Australia and I feel it is one of my best portraits.
